Low Linewidth

Low Linewidth Fast Tunable Laser

Our tunable lasers, available in butterfly and nano-ITLA packages, offer the unique trifecta of fast switching, wide tuning range and low linewidth for coherent transceiver telecoms, datacenter interconnects and FMCW LIDAR. The lasers are InP monolithic single mode lasers in the C-band, exhibiting a tuning range of > 30 nm centered at 1550 nm, with distinct mode-islands and high side-mode suppression ratio. The tuning of these devices rely on reverse voltage controlled electro-optic effect which results in fast switching <10 ns, low linewidth < 150 kHz and low power consumption.

Integrated Comb Lasers

The integrated Comb Laser Assembly (iCLA) enables coherent transceiver scaling by delivering four coherent wavelengths for modulation as well as next generation 5G/6G mobile by generating  very high frequency carriers in mmWave and THz bands. 

Pilot Photonics’ iCLA integrates its patented gain-switched comb technology with an on-chip demultiplexer in a monolithic PIC, enabling precise comb selection while maintaining phase coherence and linewidth. It additionally offers noise-free amplification, achieving power levels similar to tunable laser assemblies. The four phase-matched outputs, provided on separate fibers, can replace four integrated tunable laser assemblies (iTLAs) to support multiple 400G/800G coherent optical engines as well as be used to enable the generation of high-frequency carriers by combining the outputs in pairs.

We offer laser arrays delivering up to 16×200 GHz CW-WDM wavelengths for today’s Co-Packaged Optics, and the world’s first comb-enhanced External Laser Source (ExCELS) which uniquely combines the best features of comb and laser arrays, delivering 16 CW-WDM coherent wavelengths with the frequency precision of an optical frequency comb and output powers comparable to a laser array. The ExCELS module will enable continued scaling in today’s systems while future-proofing them by enabling high order modulation and coherent detection.

The Lyra OCS 1000 is an optical frequency comb source based on our patented technology that offers a flat comb of coherent wavelengths with low optical linewidth, tunable wavelength spacing (free spectral range), and excellent stability.

High-Speed Lasers

Pilot Photonics offers DFB lasers with a 3dB frequency response bandwidth above 20 GHz for applications that rely on high-speed direct modulation.
These lasers are offered in standard 7-pin butterfly package with RF (K) connector, internal thermoelectric cooler, isolator, and polarization maintaining (PM) fiber pigtail with FC/APC connectors.

Wavelength Tunable Directly Modulated Laser

Pilot Photonics’ wavelength tunable directly modulated laser is based on a multi-section directly modulated laser design with integrated amplifier and proprietary chirp reduction system. It is ITU-T G.989.2 class 1 compliant. Sampling in high-speed butterfly packages, or benchtop unit with driving controllers now available.
